Expressing and Meeting Your Needs as a Neurodivergent Mother
A Talk by Allegra Chapman (Creative Fix)
About this Talk
It's easy for your needs, and even identity, to get lost in motherhood, before you add in the extra complication of neurodivergence. If you're a neurodivergent mother, chances are you might well still be figuring out what that means for you and trying to understand how to support your own wellbeing. Chances are, you might well have neurodivergent children, and you're trying to figure out *their* needs and how to support them. So maybe your needs are getting lost, which means maybe you're feeling a little lost too?
Creative therapy practitioner, and AuDHD mother of two, Allegra Chapman will show you how to use creative techniques to come to a better understanding of yourself and support your mental and emotional health. You don't need huge amounts of time or particular skills - these are simple practices that can be woven seamlessly into the margins of life. And maybe ones that your children can pick up too!
Even if you don't think you're a "creative type", you'll find ways to enter into a dialogue with that deepest part of yourself that's yearning to be seen and heard. You'll learn to integrate your feelings and thoughts so that they're not festering in your body or flashing out in moments of frustration. You might just unleash an inner artist that's been lying dormant, waiting for a chance to express what's deep inside you. After all, human beings have been making art and telling stories since we arrived on this planet - creativity is a key part of all of us.
It's true that you can't pour from an empty cup, and that caring for your needs makes you better able to care for your children's... but it's also true that YOU are valuable and worthy of care and nurturing all by yourself. Your needs matter. You matter. It's time to come home to yourself.
